КОНТРОЛЬНАЯ РАБОТА № 1
1. Спишите текст и письменно переведите его на русский язык.
In a foreign port a seaman can face some difficulties. First of all he must know how to get to a place he needs. Then he must know which transport it is better to use. Sometimes a seaman may know the street and the number of the house, but he does not know how to find it. He may lose his way. In all these cases he needs help from somebody. He must ask a passer-by to show him the way. Foreigners may not speak Russian. Therefore he must ask a passer-by in his native language or in English. Usually people are glad to help a stranger. But it is important to know how to ask the way. For example: “Sorry to trouble you, sir; can you show me the shortest way to the port?” or “ Will you tell me how to get to the centre, please?” or “ Excuse me, sir; what’s the way to the railway station?” After receiving the necessary help you must thank the passer-by: “ Thank you for advice. It’s very kind of you.”
